The 2026 NBA regular season tips off on Tuesday, 20 October, and the energy is already building. The only catch for us in Nairobi is the clock: the biggest games land between 10pm and 5am, while we're asleep or getting ready for work.

So we're running it back, together. On Saturday, 24 October, The Home Crowd takes over District 6 Sports Bar at Hyatt Regency, Westlands to replay the best of Opening Week from the 2026 NBA regular season on the big screens, with Saturday's Premier League London derby live in between. You can follow every fixture on the official NBA schedule.

What's on the Screens: The Best of The 2026 NBA Regular Season Opening Week

76ers vs Knicks: Ring Night at the Garden This is the headline game of the week. The Knicks open their title defence at Madison Square Garden, raising their first championship banner in 53 years and collecting their rings. Across the floor are the new-look Philadelphia 76ers, with LeBron James and Jaylen Brown making their Sixers debuts. If you only catch one game from Opening Week, make it this one.

Thunder vs Spurs: The West Finals Rematch Last season the Spurs had Oklahoma City's number in the regular season and again in the Western Conference Finals. Victor Wembanyama and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander meet on opening night, and both teams will want to make a statement early.

Celtics vs Pistons: The Season Opener The first game of the 2026 NBA regular season pits the two top seeds in the East from last year against each other. Cade Cunningham's Pistons host a Celtics team led by Jayson Tatum, with Jaylen Brown now in Philadelphia.

Timberwolves vs Heat: Two New Experiments It's our first look at Giannis Antetokounmpo in a Miami jersey under Erik Spoelstra, and at LaMelo Ball running the floor alongside Anthony Edwards in Minnesota. Nobody knows yet how either fit will work, which is exactly why it's worth watching.

⚽ Chelsea vs Tottenham: LIVE at 7:30 PM Basketball takes a short break for a London derby at Stamford Bridge, shown live as Saturday's evening Premier League kick-off.

Nairobi City Thunder: Champions Right Here at Home

Before the 2026 NBA regular season takes over our screens, let's give our own champions their flowers. Nairobi City Thunder have been crowned Kenya's national men's basketball premier league champions for the third season in a row, sweeping nine-time champions Kenya Ports Authority 3-0 in the best-of-five final. Thunder beat the Dockers 78-67 and 72-63 in Mombasa, then came back from a halftime deficit to close it out 74-70 at Kasarani on 2 October.

That three-peat came on top of a perfect 22-0 regular season, and Thunder haven't lost a league game across three straight seasons. Three titles. Zero defeats. That's the standard Kenyan basketball is now setting. Thunder fans, Saturday is your night too, so come celebrate with us. (Full final report on Citizen Digital)
